installing monster pave

MonsterPave

MonsterPave is a water permeable, hard but not brittle paving system using a blend of naturally decorative aggregates and recycled SBR rubber granules from used tyres.  This meets the assessibility requirement for wheel chair users, prams and buggies.  MonsterPave can be laid at 25mm depth over concrete or tarmac sub base or at 35mm depth over well compacted stone.  The materials must be bound with our specially formulated high tensile polyurethane binder in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

Common uses:

Playground Walkways
Outdoor Gym
Tree pits
Cemetery pathways
Canal and river paths
Daily mile tracks
Bridleways
Cycle paths
Golf Club pathways

Calculations:
1sqm at 25mm depth you will need 25kgs of MonsterPave (concrete or tarmac sub base)
1sqm at 35mm depth you will need 35kgs of MonsterPave (over well compacted stone sub base)
High tensile resin at 13% mix (3.25kgs or 2.95 litres of binder for one 25kg bag of MonsterPave)
Edging

The only approved binder for the system is our MonsterPave High Tensile binder.  The rubber aggregate blend should be mixed with the binder. The materials must be accurately measured and thoroughly mixed in a force action pan mixer for 3 minutes before application.  The same time MUST be used for each mix as this is crucial for consistency.  NEVER mix only part of a bag.  The materials should be applied to the substrate and levelled to the required thickness by rake, screed rails and bar or trowel, and then smoothed and lightly compacted with a roller or trowel.  Smoothing agent can be used to lubricate tools and ensure a good finish.  Once installed, the area needs to be protected until fully cured.  Curing periods vary according to climatic conditions but typically can be between 6 and 24 hours.  Full strength of the surface will not be realised for 3 days after installation so for heavily used areas it is advisable to restrict the use during the first 3 days.  Avoid any installation during periods of rain, in standing puddles of water.  The High Tensile Binder is based on Aromatic PU and may therefore be subject to some initial yellowing which could be visible on lighter coloured aggregates.  The yellowing will clear after time due to abrasion and further UV exposure.
